Our mission is to support and promote avalanche forecasts, education, research, and professional development in the pursuit of healthy lifestyles and the reduction of unintentional injuries.

This is a telecommute/work-at-home position based in the Anchorage or Mat-Su area.

The role of this position is to provide assistance and support to the statewide Alaska Avalanche Information Center which exists to promote avalanche safety by reducing the impact of avalanches on recreation, industry and transportation in the State through a program of forecasting and education.

Description of Job: The right candidate will work directly with the statewide AAIC Director. They will be able to work independently with little to no management oversight, or as part of a team, whichever the situation requires.  This position demands honesty, integrity, dependability and the ability to interact well with the public. An interest in public safety and experience in backcountry travel are a must. Current certifications for wilderness medical, avalanche training (minimum Level I,) water safety, etc… are a plus and highly valued but not mandatory.

DUTIES

  • Research and write a weekly snow and trail information bulletin for six to eight local radio stations with lead forecaster or director oversight
  • Organize, schedule and support avalanche awareness and cold water safety outreach for schools, organizations, companies and the general public
  • Provide Media communications and briefings
  • Correspond with sponsors, donors, members and supporters through direct contact, social media and newsletters
  • Support and assist in the management of financial budgeting and tracking
  • Network with a wide range of professionals during conferences and meetings

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

  • Must live in or be willing to locate to Southcentral Alaska (Anchorage/Mat-Su area.)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be able to work independently with little to no supervision
  • Have interest or experience in education with people of all ages, elementary to adult
  • Possess an interest in public safety
  • Have experience in backcountry travel

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be willing and able to work from home
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state of Alaska driver’s license
  • Must be willing and able to travel within the state

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with Word Press and / or website management
  • Experience in journalistic and technical writing
  • Experience with Quick Books

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Approved background check from the Alaska State Troopers
  • Three personal references
