General Observations
Skied Devil’s Thumb, up and down the southwest face. While skinning, heard and felt whoomphing regularly. Stayed on slopes < 30 degrees. Saw some R1 dry loose avalanches on steep terrain (>40).
Dug two pits, one in trees (150 cm snowpack – no results) and one at about 4000′. For the pit above treeline, CT25 sudden pop @ bed surface – advanced depth hoar; ECTX. Over all, top half of 90cm snow pack was new snow, bottom half was all facets with the largest crystals at the bed surface.
