General Observations

Haines Pass Zone: Spent a few day out touring a variety of aspects and elevations. Highly variable conditions from the strong north winds. Snow changed every 100ft from sastrugi, to hollow wind slab, to recycled powder, to lightly roasted corn, to supportable and breakable crust. The sun warmed up solar aspects which softened the snow, until it refroze again as it went into the shade. Observed a fresh cornice collapse on a terrain feature that produced a debris flow and also small loose point releases on steep and rocky terrain from solar radiation. Overall cooler temperatures and wind blasted slopes staved off a true spring shed, or ripened corn snow.
