General Observations

Lutak Zone: 2600’/S-Aspect/High clouds & sun/Light N-wind/29F. Hard surface conditions are primed for snow to slide over with the next round of precipitation. The snow line was at 1500′ with enough snow to cover alders above that. It looked thick where south winds had blown snow in however only probed 100-120cm at 2000′. Dug a pit at 2600′ with a total snow depth of 130cm and found hard of melt-freeze crusts in the top meter of snow.

  • Two main crusts had shear results down 10cm and 50cm
  • The lower crust had 2-3mm rounding facets presumably the late December outflow weak layer we have been tracking
  • It seems like any elevation than got warm enough before the colder temperatures has locked up
  • Saw a couple old D2 wet/storm releases on southerly aspects ~2000′
  • Tough to say, but looked like the top of 3920′ may have been rock hard???
