General Observations

Lutak Zone: 2200’/NW-aspect/Broken-Overcast/Calm/20F. There was 8″ of new snow from yesterday’s storm that sat over supportive windpack. This denser snow beneath the new snow was more noticeable above 1500′ where the south wind had affected it. Dug a test pit at 2200′ and the total depth of snow was 215cm. The snowpack structure down 160cm was a mix of 1F and 4F layers –mostly dense hardness– with the exception of a 10cm layer down 105cm. After an extended column test with ETN and ETX results without any propagation, a propagation saw test produced PST 35/105 End down 105cm, a reactive failure. We might interpret this that there is good strength in the upper snowpack, but that a weak layer does exist down 105cm and still needs time to heal.
