General Observations

Transitional Zone: 2700’/E-Aspect/Clear/Light N Wind/15F. Observed D2 pocket of wind slab that got remotely triggered on Saturday and D1 loose dry point releases on solar aspects. Crusty below treeline with small 1mm surface hoar on protected slopes. Transitioned to softer surface conditions around 1700′ with light wind affect powder 5″ deep above treeline. Supportive overall but easily punched through to a weak layer 2ft+ down with a foot pen. The weak layer of concern was a 2″ thick layer of small facets, or weak sugar snow. At the base there was 2-3mm depth hoar mostly refrozen except where there were alders sticking up that caused shallower spots with less cohesive snow.

*This northerly range historically can harbor weak layers and does not get the same north wind as Flower Mountain or Old Faithful — keep that in mind, but also be mindful of poor snowpack structure out in the landscape.
