General Observations
Lutak Zone: 1cm melt-freeze crust that formed at the tail end of the 12/29 storm. You could break through it easily and it was noticeable between 1,500′ – 3,000′. On top of the crust were 1-2mm surface hoar crystals. Below the breakable crust was 10-15cm of soft snow that got progressively firmer further down. Found overall good stability today and upright snow pack between 250cm-320cm+ deep. Some evidence of wind above 2,500′. Scroll down for more info….

Snowpack Observations
The surface hoar persistent weak layer formed over the12/29 crust 12/29 & 12/30 due to calm/clear/cold nights. Expect touchy avalanche conditions on this layer with any future snow load. The layer was widespread at mid-elevations.
