General Observations

Great skiing at Mumfords today. But the new snow is deep and quite unstable (see below). We stuck to trees and slopes 30 degrees and less.
The new snow is about 20″ deep, low density, no wind effect, and very poorly bonded. We were able to easily trigger small soft slabs on switchbacks.

We dug a pit at treeline, about 2100ft. N aspect. 25 degree slope. ECTP12 RP down 55cm. AND CTV down 55cm. These easy failures occurred between a wind slab 45cm deep, and an ice crust. Between the two is a layer of weak facets. Easy triggering, and propagation due to the stiffness of the wind slab. This nasty combination is holding up the new snow at this elevation. Avalanche terrain should be avoided in these conditions!
