Backcountry Travel Workshops

This winter, whether you ride a sled, skis, board or just use snowshoes to get around, make sure you are prepared by attending one of AAIC’s Backcountry Travel workshops.  Many of these programs are free thanks to support from the Alaska Department of Public Safety. Other’s are offered at a reduced rate thanks to support from AARP Alaska.

The classes cover a variety of topics on what to pack, how to prepare, safe travel techniques, basics on survival, communication skills and much more.

Whether you are new to Alaska or a long-time veteran, don’t assume that just because you have done this before, you know what to do. “We all need an annual refresher and to practice these skills, not just assume we’ll know what to do if we need to use them,” said AAIC Education Director instructor Sarah Carter.
