Avalanche Activity

The highway avalanche hazard is LOW.

The avalanche hazard should continue to decrease through the weekend.

Weather

We received 4 inches of water last week, with moderate to strong east wind and a freezing line fluctuating near sea level. This translated into 2 feet of heavy snow at sea level, 4 feet of new snow above 1500 feet, and twice as much on wind loaded western aspects above tree line. Some avalanche activity occurred. Recent dry cool weather now promotes stability.

Expect a half inch of water Thursday night into Friday. This should arrive as 6 inches of snow to sea level. Besides any new snow instability this may create, the overall avalanche hazard should decrease through the weekend.
