Clear skies have created large diurnal temperature swings. Below freezing temperatures at night have promoted snow stability, while warm afternoon temperatures and strong sunshine have caused avalanche activity. Some avalanches have been large. This looks like the beginning of our spring shed. Expect this trend to continue for the next month. Clouds may slow activity, while heavy precipitation or sunshine will increase shedding.
