Weather

Last week brought several inches of water with the freezing line mostly above our local peaks. This tested our shallow snow pack and caused some small isolated avalanches. Temperatures abruptly dropped early New Years, bringing near a foot of cold, dry, light snow to sea level in the last 48 hours. Moderate wind has loaded western aspects.

Expect mostly cold, and relatively dry weather the next week. We may get some more light snow. Moderate northerly outflow winds may move the wind loading hazard towards southerly slopes. Otherwise, snow stability should increase. Also, be wary of the lack of base below 1000 feet.
