Weather

The first week of February brought a significant amount of new snow, especially above 1000 feet. Recently, a couple days of mild weather allowed the snowpack to begin adjusting. Another large storm is now upon us. Moderate to strong wind is currently moving available snow towards western aspects. Precipitation and temperatures are quickly increasing. Models suggest 2 inches of water into Sunday, with the freezing line climbing to our local peaks Saturday. This rapid change will cause avalanches. Our relatively shallow snowpack should keep activity from reaching the highway. Conditions look to dry and cool Sunday, promoting stability through Monday. Backcountry users should avoid avalanche terrain Saturday and probably let the snowpack rest Sunday.
