General Observations

Lutak Zone: Above freezing temperatures and strong solar radiation helped jump start the spring shed. Below 2500′ on a north aspect corn snow appeared mid-day, while elevations higher up held on to colder drier snow. Any aspect with sun exposure began to produce point releases around rocks and cliffs, along with snow falling off of rime trees. Listened throughout the day to falling rock and snow from almost any direction. Most noteworthy slab avalanche activity was on a NW aspect at 4500′ where a fairly recent cornice drop stepped down to a persistent layer over unsupported terrain and produced a size D2.5. On a E aspect at 3500′ a D1 pocket slab pulled out potentially a result of prior wind loading. Avoided traveling under slopes with big cornices, solar exposure, or wind slab texture.
