Avalanche Activity

The highway avalanche hazard is CONSIDERABLE.

Weather

We received 1 ½ inches of water Sunday into Tuesday, with the freezing line fluctuating around 1500 feet. Observations have been limited, though some avalanche activity probably occurred. Expect heavy precipitation Wednesday, with the freezing line climbing to the peaks. Models suggest another 2 inches of water. This will cause more and perhaps larger avalanches as the water percolates through the upper snowpack. Precipitation should start to taper Thursday, but the avalanche hazard will linger while the snowpack drains.
