2.28.19 Snow Report

Hey snow lovers! The Alaska Avalanche Information Center is here with your weekly snow report thanks to Kendall Toyota of Anchorage and Country Legends.

Snowmachine trails throughout southcentral are open, check the Mat Su Borough Trails and Alaska State Parks websites for the latest updates on closures and grooming.

Forecasters across the state have noted a general increase in daytime air temperatures and caution riders to be wary when traveling across south faces and areas that received extended periods of direct sunlight.

Always check Alaska Snow dot org to get the latest avalanche forecast.

Many observations were submitted last week of avalanches and avalanche activity. If you see an avalanche or other backcountry hazard, please post your observation on Alaska Snow dot org. Share what you find to help others be aware!

March 2nd will be the start of this year’s Iditarod Mushers race; event organizers ask riders to be cautious and respectful when encountering dog teams in the backcountry.

That’s it for this week, travel smart and train like a pro so you can live to ride another day.
